With the roster becoming quite stacked in 2004, ROH saw a void to fill to keep the roster motivated - a new singles championship was needed. So at the Second Anniversary Show in 2004, a tournament was hosted to crown the first ever Pure Champion. With this new championship, ROH sought to create a division that encouraged pure sportsmanship in professional wrestling. By having a limited amount of rope breaks, and stricter policies regarding punches and disqualifications, the division became a new challenge for much of the roster.
Some thrived in the new environment. Some struggled to make the adjustments. But this was something different for the American scene. Thanks to this newfound division and championship, new stars were created. A purpose was given for the mid-card and up-and-comers.
For the only time in its history, we are proud to present this three disc set chronicling the best of the Pure Championship. Whether it was the epic title reign of Nigel McGuinness (including the incredible unification matches against Bryan Danielson) or the very beginnings with AJ Styles as he collided with CM Punk, this is a set for everyone to see. With 27 complete matches (including 3 bonus Pure Wrestling matches), this is the end-all, be-all of the Pure Title.
